Inexpensive Home Updates That Will Make Selling A Snap

Posted on: 20 December 2016

If you're trying to sell your home, you likely know that house hunters have their pick of multiple homes to buy. So how do you make yours stand out? Read on for some updates you can make to your home that will allow you to quickly and fairly inexpensively stand out from the competition.

Bathroom Updates

Make your bathroom appear larger by removing glass shower doors from a bathtub shower. Reglaze and recaulk your bathtub to make it look brand new again. Scrape aging wallpaper off the wall and paint walls a pleasing and clean shade of white that is always a fantastic bathroom choice.

Outdoor Updates

Make sure that all over-grown shrubs get a good trim. Add a few plants around the front entry in various heights to add visual interest. Consider replacing an old cement walkway with a flagstone walk. Paint over it with a sealant to give it a freshly rained-on look. That wet appearance will make the color of the stone really stand out. A gallon of paint is inexpensive and covers a lot of wall space. Give your porch or the entire outside of your home a coat of paint to freshen up the whole look. If trying to figure out how to coordinate colors scares you, simply head to the hardware store and pick up a color card that shows coordinated colors. It takes all of the guesswork away!

Kitchen Updates

Buyers love an updated kitchen, but kitchen updates can be expensive. Rather than trying to replace all of your cabinetry, sand and repaint them for a modern look. White is a bright and modern choice for a kitchen. Be sure to update the cabinetry hardware as well. Alternatively, remove the cabinet doors for a trendy look that also will make the kitchen appear larger.

Bonus Room Remodel

If you have a bonus room in your house that does nothing but store old exercise equipment or out-of-season clothing, give it an update with a fresh coat of paint and a cheerful rug. Be sure you know what type of people in your area buy homes before doing this, however. If mostly single people or older childless couples purchase homes in your neighborhood, style it like an exercise room, library or office. If your neighborhood is being flooded with young families, you want potential home buyers to look at that bonus room as a playroom or maybe even a cozy nursery.
