2 Things To Do To Get Ready For An Open House

Posted on: 19 December 2016

When you are selling your house, your real estate agent will probably recommend that you have an open house. An open house will let a lot of people come in to see your house in a short amount of time. When people are coming for an open house, you want them to be impressed with what they see. There are things that you can do that will help that happen.

Stay Neutral

One thing you need to do is make sure that anyone who is looking at your house is going to be able to see themselves in your house. That means that you are going to need to put away a lot of personal touches in your house. You will want to take most of your family photos down. That way people can see their family photos in place. But, you don't want to leave your walls completely bare, so leave up one or two.

You should also put away collectibles and tchotchkes. They can lead to a cluttered look, and your open house visitors may not want to see that. You also run the risk of one of your precious items getting broken, which could be really upsetting.

Hide Your Pets

While you may think of your pets as part of the family, not everyone loves animals. In fact, some people can be really upset by cats or dogs. So, you need to make sure that your pets aren't around. If you can, put them in a crate or carrier and put them someplace where people won't be going. That could be someplace like your garage, your basement, or a small bathroom.

If you don't have any place like that in your house, then you may want to see if you can let them visit a friend's house for that day or look into pet daycare or boarding at a vet's office for the day. If the weather is nice, you have a dog, and you have the time, you may want to take your dog to the dog park so that they can have fun while the open house is going on. The plus side of that is that you may get some stress relief, too.

Selling your house can be stressful. An open house can help your house sell. Making sure that you get your house ready for the open house will help everything go smoothly.
