When you plan to move to another city and plan to buy a home, it's not necessarily practical to travel to that city and begin searching for a property. Take some time to research the agents in the city you'll be moving to and don't shy away from interviewing several over the phone. Research The Right Neighborhood
When you don't know the city well, it's hard to find a suitable neighborhood. Make sure that the agent you hire can provide you with data on the different neighborhoods in the city and even recommend one. You'll need to provide input that will make this search easier. For example, if you're moving to the new city for work, make sure the agent knows where you'll be working. This will help with finding a neighborhood that offers a practical commute. Additionally, if you have children or plan to have children, ask your agent to find a child-friendly area.
Visit Open Houses And Have Video Chats With You
Although you can peruse the listings that the agent sends you online, having the agent attend the open house and launch a video chat with you will give you a better sense of each listing. Make sure that your agent can offer this service. For example, he or she will attend the open house or even schedule a private viewing, and then load a video chat on his or her smartphone. You'll then be able to see what the agent is seeing and provide feedback and ask questions while the agent walks through the house.
Pick You Up At The Airport And Drive You Around
You won't want to buy a home without stepping foot in it, so once you and your agent have selected a couple suitable properties, you'll likely travel to the city. If you're flying, make sure that your agent will be able to meet you at the airport and take you around to see the houses. Ideally, he or she will have set up viewings on the day that you arrive. If you don't know the city, this is a better strategy than having to rent a car and trying to navigate the city on your own.
