Are You Downsizing Your Living Accommodations?

Posted on: 24 May 2019

Are you and your partner now empty nesters? If so, you probably have mixed emotions about your new status in life. On one hand, maybe you get melancholy for days gone by when you had kids and all of their activities filling your life and your home. On the other hand, perhaps you are excited about adventures that are ahead of you.

Maybe you want to keep your large house so that you'll have plenty of space for your children and the grandchildren to stay when they come to your house. On the other hand, maybe your grown kids and their families live right in your own town. Doesn't that mean that you won't need the extra space for overnight stays? If that's the case, part of your plan for the future might involve moving out of your large home and moving to a smaller one. With that in mind, from moving to a small home to moving to an adult community read on for some helpful ideas.

Choose A Small Home - Think of buying a small home that is close to at least one of your children. Of course you still want to live independently of your kids, and you realize that they value their privacy. However, living close to your kids means that you'll be there to help them with things like baby sitting. It also means that, as you get older, there will be somebody close by to reach out when you need help.

If you do choose to move to a small home close to one of your children, consider the kind of home you want. For example, if you love to garden, select a home that has at least a small back yard. if you enjoy cooking and baking, think of choosing a home with a state-of-the-art kitchen. And, if you still want your kids to have sleepovers at your house, you'll want a guest room.

Choose An Adult Community - Maybe you would love to live in an all-adult community. Think of the fact that there will more than likely be minimal noise. You won't have to worry about kids riding their bikes and their skateboards on the sidewalk in front of your house.

If you do decide to live in an adult community, there will probably be many perks available to you. For example, there might be a community center where you can hold parties. In addition, there might be a swimming pool complete with dance aerobic classes. Look for groups that meet for crafts, walking, and for game night. Your adult community might even offer things like field trips and rides to shopping areas.

Find out if landscaping is part of the price of living in your adult community. You might have to pay extra for that service, but it will more than likely be money very well spent.
